                    Goldsborough  March 30th 1862
      Dear sis (Vic? or Vie?) i would have written to yo

all before now but havent had the appertunity as we have been moving about so much. we had very bad luck coming from Weldon to Goldsborough. the train was off three times and run into another Enjine. one or two men got hurt and and killed one negro. as we passed by Wilson i saw cousin Madie standing in front of the College. we were going so fast i couldnt speak to her. i got a letter from cousin Lou Williams the other Day. said all well in Louisburg. said she hadnt received a letter from none of you in two months. how is Dick holden coming on. he went from Suffolk on a sick furlough. did Pa get the money i sent $30. Cousin Walter & C William send their love to you all. they are both in good health. i am in first rate health but ther is right (?)something of our Company sick. we have lost four in about four weeks. i will now close. give my love to all. your most affictionate Brother R.
