My dearest Peggy,
For several weeks
I have been staying with my
dear friends, Aunt [?] & the Lamberts
who all send much love to you, & Sally
sends love to you & to Mary Rose & Belle.
We often talk of you, & I ever feel for
you, the deepest love, affection which
neither time or absence can diminish.
Mrs. Saunders & her family pro-
pose returning to Williamsburg & I
am waiting in Richmond to see them
& to entreat that they will stay with
me, until they get their home pre-

pared for their reception.
Dr. and Mrs. Millington, (who are now
residents of Phia.) have been to see
me recently . We went at the re-
quest of Mrs. Saunders through
her home & found the home not
much injured, & the garden was
as sweet & pretty, as when they left
it. The servants are very faithful
to them, & greatly wish for their
return. You were one of the first
persons Mrs. Millington & the Dr.
enquired for.
My Darling Lizzie Harrison
also talked of you; as soon as she
knew I was in was in[sic] R. she came down
& took me to Elk Hill where I re-
mained two weeks. Lelia spent the
spring there.

gards, in which I am joined by
my friends here, to Mr. Botts & the
girls & to Beverly. I should be so
glad to see you at my home
in Wmsburg. I am living at the
Old House, where you first knew
my Parents.
Oh! dearest Peggy, I have been so wretched
[these?] years ago, my Darling Brother
died: he was ill only four days
an affliction of the stomach, to which
he had been subject for many
years. I hoped to the last he would
recover, but it was not to be
& I was left broken-hearted. I know
that his philanthropic life
& never wavering trust in the
All Perfect Sacrifice has gained
for him, an Eternity of Happiness

but I cannot be comforted for
his Presence was ever to me, as
Perpetual Sunshine & his absence
as the Darkness of death, to me,
making life all anguish &
gloom!
Farewell
With truest, fond
